The Prince of Wales Set to Attend COP30 Climate Summit in Brazil

The Prince of Wales plans to participate in the United Nations climate conference in Brazil next month, as confirmed by the royal household.

Prince William and King Charles made a joint appearance on Thursday evening at a gathering leading up to the climate summit, which is scheduled to take place in the Amazonian city of Belém.

The King and Prince were in attendance at the scientific institution event, marking an unusual joint appearance at a pre-COP30 gathering organized in partnership with the British authorities.

Climate Leadership Commitment

The King has been a longstanding advocate of biodiversity preservation - and Prince William has assumed the responsibility, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be held in Brazil ahead of the climate conference.

Palace insiders have portrayed William's involvement at the forthcoming conference as taking on an crucial position in "climate diplomacy".

Previous Activities

The King and Prince of Wales, making a joint entrance in the official car, were greeted participants featuring environmentalists, researchers, climate change campaigners, diplomats and government officials.

This engagement involved presentations together with French leader Macron of the French Republic and other international figures at the Ocean Finance Summit in the Principality of Monaco during the current year.

The UN meeting will dovetail with the William's personal Earthshot environmental awards, which will wrap up in the Brazilian city the day before he attends the climate conference on 6 November.

Recently the prince characterized the award contenders as "modern-day pioneers".

Royal Climate Legacy

The monarch has been a key figure at previous climate summits, delivering the inaugural speech in Dubai for COP28, including the observation: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".

"Throughout my life I've dedicated a large proportion of my life trying to raise awareness about the existential threats challenging our world over global warming, global temperature increases and species extinction," the sovereign addressed attendees.
